Our recycled Christmas decorations are in! This year saw another brilliant effort from a huge number of students in the school and our judges have a tough job ahead. Eek!
Our Wheelbarrow Gardens were on show at this year's Dalkey Creates Festival. This year our wheelbarrows were full of vegetables and herbs such as broccoli and parsley and along with the wheelbarrows from other local schools, they made a wonderfully colourful and vibrant display at Dalkey Church.
Our Green Schools Committee for 2018-19 is:
2nd class: Adam Finlay and Curtis Culliton 3rd class: Jamie Hayden-Cranfield and Taylor Nolan 4th class: Thomas Cassidy and Dáithí Devaney 5th class: Scott McCullough and Ben Kelly 6th class: Stephen Burke, Nicolai Callaghan and Daniel Doyle Staff: Mr Smith, Ms O'Neill and Marvin Bautista Thanks to all of our committee for volunteering as we work towards our 6th Green Flag for Global Citizenship Litter and Waste. We have started a six week spell of walking from Cuala GAA grounds to our school for students and staff. We encourage everybody to get walking, scooting or cycling to school especially with our fantastic summer weather so far! We were awarded Best School in the Little or No Green Space category in this year's Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown Tidy Schools awards. This award is a fantastic compliment to the work done by students and staff in keeping our grounds so tidy, beautiful and litter-free. A huge thank you to our caretaker Marvin Bautista who does so much unseen work at the school as well as to Ms. O'Neill whose green fingers have been appreciated in brightening up our front door area.
It was time to celebrate as we collected our fifth Green Schools flag for our work on the Biodiversity theme. Two lucky members of our committee went with Mr Smith to The Helix to collect our flag and had a great day there too. Thanks to all the students, parents, staff and the local community for helping us reach this milestone and we hope to continue to promote the Green Schools cause and protect our environment in positive ways in the future!
Fourth class visited the Natural History Museum today and learned loads about biodiversity in Ireland throughout history on our guided tour. Thanks to the staff at the museum for their helpfulness and knowledge! Check out our video below: We took part in this year's National Spring Clean, helping keep Dalkey tidy. Each class took a different area of Dalkey to clean and we had great fun along the way. Check out pictures of our clean up below: We planted a wildflower area at the front of the school to help biodiversity in our school garden. The area is bare at the moment but will hopefully look beautiful soon with lots of colourful summer flowers to attract pollinators to our garden!
